So, I’ve thought about it and thought about it and decided that this blog is NOT going to be just about writing.  If it is that would be sooooo boring and would make me fall asleep, as well as you guys.  I racked my brain and racked my brain until I figured out a few things I could share with you guys on my blog today.

Since we are all writers here in one form or another, I thought maybe we could share the things in our lives that drive us crazy while trying to write.  One of the things that drives me crazy when I write is…I’m right at the good part.  You know the part of your book in which we refer to as the climax and I got my mojo (sp?)  going.  I’m writing and writing……I’m trying to get it all out of me while I have it fresh in my mind and the cat sits directly on top of my hands on the computer with that mean ‘feed me’ look he gets when he’s hungry.  My cat is not one of those cats who does anything for attention.  Nope.  When he wants to be fed, he wants to be fed now.  So I feed him.   Back to the writing.  The kids are fighting (and they’re 18 and 24 years old)……Really?  “Mom, I need to talk to you,” “Mom, I need some money,” “Mom….”You know how it goes.  Calgon take me away! So I turn off my computer, and put it away in hopes that I can remember everything I want to write down tomorrow.  If not, there may be hell to pay in the future…..what irritates you when you try to write?  Come on, Don’t by shy guys tell me all about it………..

Interruptions are definitely frustrating. If it’s something I’m afraid I’ll forget, I ask the person to wait while I write a summary of what I have in mind. That way, my mind can still work on the scene or idea in the background and the summary on the page will remind me to write it all down later. But, the ideal thing is to get the writing done at that moment, especially if the muse hits you. Life doesn’t quite work that way, does it?

I would say that your body can be annoying as well when you’re on a roll during the writing process. Aches and pains, even knowing your hungry or thirsty can be distracting. I try to keep some kind of snack food and two bottles of water around so that I don’t have to keep taking a break when I’m in the middle of a scene. Or three. LOL. Who knows how long that session will take? Also, I often write at night (that’s when inspiration hits me), and sometimes I get so tired that I have to at least write a summary of what I’m thinking so that I can sleep without worrying that I lost a fragment of the scene.

Thank you for commenting Marie. (by the way, I love your name! :)) I do a lot of night writing too, but it’s quite limited with the kids and work. I try to write a lot on my weekends, but ya know, life gets in the way for sure. These are great suggestions. My treats are pop, a glass of water and chocolate or popcorn as a reward for me when I’m finished. I know it’s awful, but it is well worth it sometimes, especially through a difficult scene. Or editing…Night time is great for mystery, suspense and horror, and helps to get the muse in gear! 🙂
